Wednesday, June 24, 2015: What’s happening today at Magicland Farms

Thinning peaches yesterday and took a panoramic photo of the orchard.

Yesterday evening I sat out on my outdoor Lazy-Boy lawn chair in our yard.  What was interesting is that while I saw several toads, I DID NOT SEE A SINGLE MOSQUITO!  We don’t spray insecticides at our home or have any type of bug repeller!  That is odd, me thinks! Also, we have received plenty of rain this June so the lack of squitters is even more puzzling.  I do notice this year we hear bullfrogs all night long.  I think this is unusual.  The frogs get so loud and noisy that my oldest daughter complains about the noise!

Today looks to be sunny and beautiful!  The rain we had on Monday is gone–the ground is drier than just before the rain right now!  Not that we need rain because the soil seems to have enough for awhile.  We are about done thinning peaches–in February we really wondered if we would have a crop at all and we wound up having to thin them–who’d guess?  We all must keep in mind that the size of a crop is really unknown until after the harvest!  For instance, while we knew our strawberry crop would be significantly smaller than last year, we wound up not even having enough strawberries for our own needs!  This surprised even the most pessimistic in our family!

What we are having Today:
